Hi, I’m Yaya Jatta, and I’m the founder of Ask Jattoes. I created this site to share my journey of starting an online business and show you how the internet can help you gain financial independence, no matter where you’re starting from.
How I Got Here
In 2016, I came across a report about the high unemployment rate in The Gambia, which made me think deeply about what people could do if the government couldn’t provide enough jobs. I began searching the internet for ways to create opportunities, and I quickly discovered that the digital world was full of possibilities for anyone ready to take action.
My journey into the world of technology and IT wasn’t straightforward. At first, I was passionate about IT, but after some struggles with IT courses, I decided to switch to Accounting, which I was good at but didn’t really love. One day, I had an unforgettable encounter with my two lecturers—one from IT and the other from Accounting and Finance. They met me together, and it didn’t take long for them to start debating my move. The IT lecturer said it was the worst mistake I had made, while the Accounting lecturer said the mistake was starting Accounting so late. This conversation made me realize that I had a strong background in both fields, but deep down, IT was where my heart truly lay.
During my attachment job in Accounting, I also had an interesting experience with my IT manager. He once called me a “threat to information security” because of how easily I navigated the company’s networks, even though I was working as an accounting intern. This moment stayed with me because it showed just how naturally I gravitated towards IT, even when I wasn’t formally trained in it.
Even though I had a steady job in Accounting, I couldn’t stop thinking about IT. I spent many sleepless nights, after working long hours at my day job, diving into online business models like affiliate marketing, blogging, and digital advertising. I wanted to make a change and follow my passion for IT and technology. Even though it was exhausting, the thrill of learning and exploring new possibilities kept me going.
Discovering How to Make Money Online
As I learned more about the internet, I realized how many ways there were to make money online. From affiliate marketing to blogging, paid ads, and media buying, I found an endless list of opportunities that could change people’s lives. I watched YouTube videos and read articles, experimenting with different methods like dropshipping, forex trading, and Facebook ads. There were plenty of failures along the way, but each one taught me something new, and eventually, I started seeing some success.

Today, Ask Jattoes is where I document everything I’ve learned about making money online. Whether it’s affiliate marketing, blogging, media buying, or digital advertising, I’m here to share my knowledge with you. I want to be open about both the successes and the struggles because every failure has been just as important in helping me grow.
